The wines from the heel of Italy are hugely popular in the Netherlands. That has everything to do with the many hours of sunshine in Puglia. A grape like Primitivo can ripen perfectly here. The Monte Tessa 1890 is made from 100% Primitivo (better known as Zinfandel in the United States) from Manduria. Primitivo di Manduria is therefore a protected designation of origin, a DOP. The vineyards benefit from the cooling influences of the nearby Ionian Sea.
