• Castor oil is extracted from the fruit of the castor bean (also known as Ricinus Communis), which is nicknamed the wonder tree. Yet the bean of the castor bean is actually not a legume (Leguminosae) and the wonder bean is therefore not an "official bean". The wonder tree owes its name to the incredible speed with which this plant grows. Originally, the castor plant comes from East Africa, India and the Southeast region of the Mediterranean. During the slave trade, this plant ended up in the Caribbean. Here the wonder tree now grows everywhere in the tropics.
• Castor, or wonder oil, has been used for centuries. For example, it was used by the Egyptians, about 4000 years before Christ. We know this because it has been found in various tombs. But also the ancient Greeks appear to know the ricinus oil. It knew many applications, including medicinal ones, but nowadays we use the wonder oil for fuller, stronger hair and even skin. It is used purely, or in combination with other natural oils.
