• Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is an herb with a very strong reputation. The name 'milk thistle' comes from the legend that the white spots on the leaves come from the milk of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For milk thistle supplements, the seeds (fruits) are usually used for extraction. The black pericarp contains flavonolignans (including silymarin, with silybin as the main component), flavonoids and fenolderivatives. Milk thistle-PS from Vitals contains the trademarked ingredient Siliphos®, a silybin extract with greatly improved biological availability through the combination with phosphatidylcholine (Phytosome® technology). It is standardized to 60 mg silybin per capsule.
